Got an advanced DVD copy of Control..

If you know about this flick then you know about this, and you probably already saw it in the theaters. But if you missed it.. Keep your eyes peeled.. I believe it’s coming out of DVD soon.

If you like Joy Division this movie is a must.. It’s about Ian Curtis the lead singer of Joy Division. The styling is great. It’s shot beautifully in black and white. The casual English writing is soo normal it’s great… There’s so much to like about this film… Pass it on.

Coachella – Prince

Prince

Respect:

Prince is the man, he’s got swagger, style, looks, talent, and he’s got a catalog of music that lasts for days. Sheila E., Morris Day.. come on.. seeing them live is an experience. Prince knows how to tear up those guitars like very few people can(he used like six different guitars during the show).

Coachella – Portishead

Portishead
Respect:

Dark, classic rock with a modern feel, enough said.

Beth Gibbons turned on the vocals, going head to head with the skilled Adrian Utley on Guitar.

Coachella – Kraftwerk

Kraftwerk

Respect:

I remember break’n and pop’n in the streets back in ’83 and as soon as Kraftwerk came on.. It was on.. Battle time..

Kraftwerk – One of the most influential groups of the synth age.

Kraftwerk’s show was unreal.. During the show you can just hear the origins of HipHop/Rap, Dance/Club, House, Techno, basically anything that uses synth.. Karftwerk straight pioneers of this type of music.

Yone II

For my last night in Tokyo.. cool’d out at Yone’s studio (Creeps) after the members only Karaoke spot.. Yone’s studio is some what of a meeting place.. Really dope vibe, waves of cool peoples stopped by throughout the night.. We chilled out at Yone’s into the morning.

Yo, for those who don’t know, Yone’s a straight G’. Thanks for the great time Yone!

The Man Be Hind The Walls

Check this out…..When traveling to Tokyo.. It can be a little intimidating at first.. Just try reading the metro maps.. It’s looks like a bowl of spaghetti. Different train lines going every where.. It could be hard to navigate even if you knew how to read Japanese.. Shoot, don’t even bother looking up there if you don’t know how to read Japanese.. It’ll just get you spun.. Just take a look at the metro map of Tokyo..

TokyoTrain

1) Wait a min.. what is this, “Call”? Not to worry.. 2) Slide tab, and press button.

TokyoTrainTokyoTrain

1,2) Wait a few seconds and trap door opens.. And a friendly face appears happy to help you get to where you want to go..

I’ve used the “call” button everytime I’ve been to Tokyo.. It’s the best thing.. There is always someone behind the little door.. Once you get the hang of the train system you don’t need use the call button cuz it’s really pretty easy to get around.. but it’s to nice know that someone is just behind that little door… Even the small ticket machines that you don’t think someone can fit behind there.. If there is a call button there’s someone behind there.. I have told this story a number of times before and have always got a kick out of telling the story.. but never had photos to share.. ah.. finally,, photos to prove it..

Yone

After meeting up with our distributors in Japan I met up with Yone. One of the illest photographers. The Terry Richardson of Japan. I first met Yone about 8 years ago in Tokyo… His been in the mix ever since. Producing and publishing countless magazines since I first met him. I got a chance to stop by his office in Harajuku. In his office there are albums galore. I wanted to look through all of them. He showed me comp’s of his newest hard cover book due to drop at the end of the month. Many of you already know his work or have seen his style.. (American Apparel appropriated his style to the masses). Really raw polaroids young looking girls in their undies in very personal poses…. Yone is definitely a busy man, he’ll be traveling and showing his work for the next few months straight. I am glad our calendars synced up.

.

Stay tuned for a jump off with cassette next month..

Madsaki and Meiji Shrine

On Sunday met up with artist Madsaki, fixed gear rider for life. Madsaki is one cool kat, he grew up in NYC, and during his later years in the States he got his hustle on as nyc bike messenger. He’s been riding fixed before it was cool. Madsaki took me to a sushi spot where we grubbed down. Aside from the usual sushi joints, Madsaki ordered us a triple dipple special of love.. I have no idea what he said to the chef but they all repeated it a few times and next thing I know 3 morsels of love came before me.. Right after I ate one of them I wished I hadn’t cuz I thought that just had ate the best one.. But noooo they were all yummy for my tummy, all as good as the next.. Tokyo kills me..

After lunch we headed over to Meiji Shrine. Tucked in the middle of Shibuya, right next to Yoyogi park is Meiji Shrine a refuge of nature.

Cherry Blossoms II

Tokyo’s Spring Cherry Blossom Festival/Season is a very special time. The Sakura (Cherry Blossom) can be seen in many logo’s throughout Japan from hotel logos, Murakami artwork to man hole covers .. During this season when it’s in full bloom you get to see the beauty, power and the fragility of the Sakura. The shear abundance of the trees, the power in numbers is overwhelming.. You see them dang trees every where. I Googled cherry blossom season for Tokyo and it said the peak time was this weekend. Sooo sick…

The cherry blossom festival/season is a time where locals chill with close friends under a tree and picnic, drink beer and kick it till the lights turn out.. Millions upon millions of people head into Tokyo to sit under these Sakura trees and picnic, reminisce and have a good ol time.. Matthew of Visvim mentioned that this time of year is very a philosophical time. I can see why.

Pics from Nakameguro River. Over 800 Cherry Trees line both sides of the river..

Poly-Psy?

My Dude K-Mac (LV/MH) and Rickey Loc invited a small group for dinner. Kenny calls the night Politix As Usual. This months suspects, Erin (Apparel News), Raan (Apolis), Sal Masekela (E!), Jeff (Boost Mobile), Med (Roosevelt Hotel/Teddys), Dave Meyers (Radical Media), Tracy (Your Daily Thread), Cara (Atlantic Records), Theresa (Tease), Joyce (Entertainment Fusion Group), Melissa (LA Times), Rickey Loc, Kenny Mac, and myself.

Kenny worked with the Chef to prepare a set 10 Cane menu.. A choice of starters.. mains.. and deserts… all mixed in with 10cane infused drinks specially made for each course and a couple of palate cleansers.

Over all it was a great evening and it was defiantly good to meet new people and to reconnect with old faces..

Thanks Kenny and Rickey. By the way the Gift bag was sweet.. The 10 Key-easy muddler is sweet.

After we closed up shop at the guerrilla shop on Sunday. We hit up Taco Zone, simply the best suadero taco’s. Rumor has it that Taco Zone is rated the #2 suadero taco truck west of the Mississippi.. Don’t ask me how that anyone can account for all the taco truck’s. I can tell you aside from the rating.. it’s dam good!

With onion breath still in hand or should I say mouth, we rolled up to the new S-Bar designed by Phillip Stark.. Kenny Mac and Rickey Loc was hosting and was kind enough to sort us out with a 10cane table.. Personal bar tender at the booth included. The portable bar had everything to make any drink you can imagine, tick another one up for Phillip Stark…
