She’s smart, down to earth, giving, knows how to laugh, and stunningly beautiful. More pics of Caroline in our fall campaign coming soon. Sneak Peek here.

Congratulations!
When two of your good buddies tell you that you should go watch a new film cuz they think you would like it.. You prob should go check it out.. Josh Madden and Joanne Cruz was telling me about This is England. Skin heads, Ben Sherman, Fred Perry, Doc Martins, in the 80’s. Definitely worth checking out if you want to see a glimpse of what England was like in 1983 through the eyes of Shane Medows.

On our way back to our studio we stopped by to say hi to Wendycity. She was spinning at a pirate bar in downtown a few blocks away from our studio.

New York is a city full of inspiration. A good friend took us to an abandoned ship in the city.
Check out a couple pictures.

Everybodies knows about Apple’s new iphone. Everybody knows people have been bugg’n out waiting for the new iphone. I mean standing in line to get a phone… lets think about that for a minute, are you crazy…. but thats what people have done.. People have gone mad with the new iphone, partly thanks to our friend Eugene.
Eugene probably has one of the coolest jobs at apple. He’s part of the design team who brought you the iphone (amongst other things).
Eugene also spins as DJ Eug, seen here repp’n cassette on the anvil cases…

Check out his site; he might be spinning in a city near you.
Rickey stopped by the studio the other day, it’s always nice when he stops by to say hi and fills us in as to what he’s been doing, and what projects he’s been working on.. During his last visit, he was kind enough to drop off a Cremaster 3 book by Mathew Barney. He said he knew I would like it.. he was right. We’re pretty Big fans of Mathew Barney. I remember watching the Cremaster Cycles when it played at the Nuart back in like ’96. Then a few years back I was fortunate enough to see his Cremaster Cycle exhibition at the Guggenheim in nyc. The exhibition was nothing short of amazing! The whole Guggenheim from the very top of the building to the theathers in the basement was dedicated to Mathew Barney’s Creamaster Cycle. Here some pics from Cremaster 3.

House of Cassette A/W 2007
—
Life is about the Hidden Treasures.
For this Fall/Winter 2007 collection, the design studio at Cassette looked toward Alaska for its inspiration. In the minds of many, Alaska denotes a land where solitude reigns and the land lays barren, the last vestige of modern day civilization. And yet Alaska also harkens an emotion familiar to us all: the literary, a sense of internal reflection, one layering against the cold. House of Cassette took these ideas as a challenge when approaching their Fall/Winter collection.
It’s apparent that environment affects man and man affects environment. Utilizing old world technology such as British Millerain wax cotton, a water repellant fabric that has proven its effectiveness over the years since the 1800s; Cassette approached this fabric with an intuitive design aesthetic in their outerwear pieces. Another highlight is Cassette’s continual use of 100% Merino Wool – Merino is the finest breed of Sheep, its wool cherished for its excellent quality.
Whilst Cassette in its design is rather clean and simple, it is the details hidden within, the junction where thread meets fabric that results in good design. The definition of good design in the House of Cassette is concentrated in the creative analysis of the internal construction and fit, i.e. wool cardigans with reverse seaming having a clean finish.
A classic trait of Cassette’s design ethos rests on the idea of self discovery: challenging the unknown, adapting to ones environment and recognizing where the hidden treasures lie. Cassette’s Fall/Winter collection is the aesthetic design output in the study of Nature vs Human, its interaction of these two parties, and the wonderful balance that remains.

Sung of Clae, Rickey of Evil Monito and John of Theme Magazine met up at the studio and kicked it for a while before we went out and grabbed dinner and some drinks. Conversations went into the morning…
To say big things are happening for these guys.. wouldn’t be right because they have been doing big things for a while now.. Lets say things are getting bigger bigger for these guys. Sung is breathing new life into his Clae shoes. John has already branched Theme into a resource for companies to tap into Theme’s creative technical-talent to assist in branding, concepting, campaigning, and publishing. They are already working with seriously, some incredible companies. Rickey is working on some huge things himself, stay tuned to his website for more details in the coming weeks..

Omar was telling me that Dennis and Rob from Crooks’n Castles was also going to be in Hong Kong. I have known Dennis and Rob since my high school days. So, it was really cool seeing them out in Hong Kong. They were staying at the Peninsula Hotel, umm yes the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong… I stopped by after a late nights work. Dennis and I went and grabbed a drink at the Fliex Bar(designed by Philippe-Starck) on top of the Peninsula Hotel.

Later we stopped by my hotel and dropped off my stuff and went over to Racks for a couple of rounds of pool.
Andy one of six guys that make up a crew called the Six Keys in Hong Kong. He invited me over to the Six Keys miniramp/gallery. This is a perfect 4 footer. One of the guys Jimmy, architect by trade CAD’d up this piece of perfection. Check out the construction at the coping. Played the music loud, had a couple of cold ones and pushed around and worked up a little sweat. Good times.

(Yuske knows I am a huge fan of both Fafi’s and Yone’s work.) He also has been working with Parra of Rockwell for a number of years now. He told me to check out Parra’s show when it comes to L.A. After party at the roof top/pool for invited guest…… Which then carried on to La Cita…..But I had to go home to burn a little midnight oil….

Rob Hamada’s words:
The idea behind this project was to create the most unique editorial possible. Many of the models come from a very historic lineage. Clark Gable, greatgrandson of Clark Gable, Dree Crisman, Earnest Hemmingways greatgranddaughter, Kian Mitchum, Robert Mitchums grandson, Margarita Kallas and Sean K, the current face of Sisley. Then styled by some of the most exciting new designers, The Cinch, House of Cassette and Brian Lichtenberg. All based on the aesthetics of French New Wave cinema and film noir to give a very sharp edge to a classic look.

Thanks Mary H.K. Choi for acknowledging Cassette and where we draw part of our influence from.

Sal stopped by the studio for a little vist.
I remember back in the early 80’s when skating was about creating your own style. Sal Barbier bringing back some style to skating.

I’m coming by to pick up one of them boards.
It’s Wednesday night Rickey Kim and Rob Hamada stop by the studio to kick it before we headed out to Jeffery Sebelia’s first runway show since his tv show. I don’t normally like to attend runway shows but this one was right around the corner from our studio so it made it a little easier to go. Right after getting there I remembered why I don’t like going to events like these. There was a line for a drink at the bar.. a line to use the loo, and a line to show how vip you were…

After the show was over we headed over to scout for a bday party they were having.

Our buddy Josh Madden sent over this pic to us. Check out both of his brothers post’n up on the cover of The Washington Post! They dedicated 12 pages to them about the life and times of Good Charlotte.

Joel (left) is rock’n Cassette’s – Caddy 1909. (check out the front dart)
The last time Josh Madden was over with his brother Joel we rattled on about different artists and movies that inspired us. During our conversations he said he was going to send over a few things he wanted me to check out… Josh Madden is a cool ass botha. He sent over 6 dvd’s and a Edward Gorey book. Yup, that what I did this weekend.. The first one I watched was docu/movie The Rising Sun about Christian Hosoi. Christian used to be my neighbor back in the 80’s. Man, it brought back some memories of the good ‘ol days.
Thanks Josh!!

Edward Gorey 20 years ahead of his time…. An inspiration for our collection today.
Our buddy, stylist, DJ, and true inspiration Josh Madden(right) was in town from nyc. He stopped by our studio with his brother Joel Madden(left) to say hi. It’s really rare when after you meet with someone you change the way you see things. This is what happened to me when I met Josh. He has such a positive out look on life and things in general, his energy just rubs off on you. He was in town visiting his brothers of Good Charlotte before they leave on pre-tour(A world tour before the World Tour) this weekend. We talked about the inspiration of the pictures posted up on our studio pillars, art, guns, skating and movies. Joel said he collects guns and I my ears opened up.. I definitely want to see your quiver one day. I’m down to peel some caps any day Joel. I’ll bring mine if you bring yours. Smile.

James Hammonds (Left) and his friend Kamran stopped by the studio. James and Kamran are both very sharp! These two are keen to pick up on the smallest details. All the long hours seam all worth it when we hear our details are noticed. We had a good conversation about fashion. Where it’s been and how things have changed.

Cheers guys, Thanks for showing us some love.
WGSN is a private internet site for trend forecasting and market research mainly for clothing, shoe and car design companies. I was first introduced to WGSN back in 1998 while I was at designing for Puma A.G./North America. What these guys do is attend most all the trade shows going on globally and recap the highlights of what took place. They also window shop all the major cities in the world, and post snap shots of their findings on the internet for their clients to see. We got news today that WGSN put us on blast as well as some of our friends.

After our field trip to the hills Rickey Kim stopped by our studio for a late night visit. Catching up with Rickey is always inspiring.

He’re Rickey kitted up in cassette.
We closed the studio for a few hours before sunset to roll out for a little field trip to the hills. As soon as we turned the corner from our studio, almost all of us in unison noticed the unusual sunset. We had to stop the truck for a picture.

Rickey, Sky and Bart from 530 Media came by the studio last night before we headed over to check out Uffie and Feadz over at the Social.

Uffie on the cover of bpm.

After running around Las Vegas on fumes– I was looking forward to coming home and literally jump into bed for a week straight. But who has time for that. I would liked to have met up with some friends from nyc after dinner, but after some home cook’n I knock the fuck out.
The next morning– Zingg, I woke up before sunrise kinda upset wondering why my ass is up so early. I walked upstairs to brew up some coffee. Look what I see out my window.

I cooled out with my fresh brew and enjoyed the sunrise.
We had to get up somewhat early and make our journey homeward back to Los Angeles. Ana Maria had to make it home in the afternoon for a few appointments. We heard that the fwy was closed down to one lane up ahead… So we took the long way home through the desert and up to big bear. Even though we were a bit late, we had to stop and take some photos of our road trip.. Here’s some photos of us having fun on our road trip back home.

You gota love Southern California.
Rickey Kim and Sky told me to roll over to Fruition which is one of the coolest stores if your looking for vintage gucci knock off’s swapmeet sweaters, offical spike lee’s “do’n the butt” puffy print sweat shirts.. While we were there we met up with a bunch of ny heads then headed over to light. The pick below reminds of this time while I was at Puma we packed 15 girls and guys on top of each for a drive home after a club in Germany.. I think I still have the record.

After getting on the road an 1 1/2hr late we were on a mad dash to set up for Project, and then rush it over to the palms and set up for our event over there. It was a good way to launch the week off in Las Vegas. 7-10pm was a powerhouse of mingling and rapping out with only a limited select few and then all the kids rolled through, it got retarded. Thanks to Coltrane and Lisa at Epiphany for putting together a night to remember or forget depending who you are… A special thanks to all the kids invovled, to the sushi guy serving up the all you can eat sushi all night, sapporo, bacardi, Micro Soft Zune player, LTD, spoonfed, jungle gurl, hellz bellz, and the cassette family.

The cassette crew has been working tirelessly. We’ve all been working till 2am, busy with shooting Fall 2007, shipping spring 2007. So, when we get a hit like this it makes it a little easier working till the early morning hours. Both models wearing all cassette. Colored denim for summer.

During the end of the year we got a call from the sweetest french voice you could ever hear over the phone. A phone call from Paris. She was calling on the behalf of French Vogue. She was wondering if we were interested in answering some question for vogue. We were delighted.
Now it’s early January, and I am in Hong Kong. I get this email and it writes “Happy new year!!! I inform you that the article “Denim Chic” is on line.”
What a way to start the year. Happy New Year indeed.

It’s late, as I check in to my hotel. The receptionist states Mr. Lee welcome back, we have a package for you.
I was like, really? OK thanks.
It was an invitation from Angel (nike HK) to the HK AF1 party. Thanks Angel! (Mr. Rickey Kim introduced us.)
After unpacking the goodies. I open the window and had to take a picture.

You got to love Hong Kong.

Today I received an email from my good friend I-K. It’s one of those emails you don’t ever want to get in the morning. Nothing but questions ran through my mind with no hope for any swift response. Our heart goes out to you Kabo. Rest In Peace Tabo-san, you will not be forgotten.

The whole Cassette gang went up to S.F. for our good friend Rickey Kim’s launch for Riottt.com. It was nice to fly up to S.F. for the weekend. It was cool seeing Rickey in his element, he’s always a good host. (Got us all back stage to all the stages…)

The Last Frontier.
Summer time in Alaska, is always a grounding experience.
Our family goes every summer. This summer was no exception. Besides the normal fishing and catching up with family friends that live up there all year around. I got a chance to picked up a drill and help with Mr. Kling’s house that he’s hand building. I don’t know if I actually helped or messed things up. In any case it was pretty cool. I am glad I got to put in a few screws. Mr. Kling actually knows how many boxes of screws he’s bought. How many people know how many screws/or nails are in the home their living in? He’s building a pretty awesome two story modern day house, with him and his long time buddies. Most of which gave their summer up to give him a hand in building a house from laying the foundation to laying in the tile. I’d say they are some pretty cool guys!
For some reason the trip this year was a big inspiration. I think you might see some of this carry in to our fall collection.

My older brother is a pretty cool guy. Not only do I look up to him, he never ceases to suprise me. Especially when he showed me his finished new oldie. I have been to a number of car shows, and have friends that have had some pretty smooth rides. In comparison to the many cars I’ve seen and have ridden this one has to be one of the sweetest, cleanest rides out there. Full, frame off restoration.
